Christian Sparkes is a writer and director from Newfoundland, Canada, drawn to stories shaped by the people and places on the edge of the Atlantic. His films weave together genre, myth, and pitch black humour with emotionally rich characters, creating cinematic worlds that feel both deeply personal and unexpectedly universal.His work has premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest and the Busan International Film Festival, earning praise from Roger Ebert, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is currently developing a slate of original genre films including the folk revenge horror URCHINS, the sexual thriller UNKNOWN PLEASURES, and the summer adventure film RUBBER WHALES, based on the making of the 1970's cult film Orca.His most recent film THE KING TIDE (2024), was selected for TIFF's prestigious Platform Program, spotlighting the next generation of international auteurs & helmed by jury president Barry Jenkins.
